Cleaning the shower recess is a task we all loathe doing. Our showers are by far the most difficult area to clean in the bathroom. We spend time scrubbing away at dirt and soap scum, choke ourselves with harsh chemicals and buff away watermarks to make our screens crystal clear, only to find it a complete mess again at the end of the day. This does not need to be the case. Making just a little change to your daily shower routine, will cut your cleaning time in half if not all together and avoid the need for harsh chemicals.

Sparkling clean shower

Follow these 3 simple steps to achieve a sparkling clean shower all day every day.

1. Rinse:

We all know that if we rinse our plates and cups out straight after use, we avoid having to scrub away at hardened, dried food and drink. The same principle applies to your shower. Rinse your shower walls and shower screen down with water when you’re finished showering. When we shower, dirt, soap residue, shampoo and conditioner, is splashed onto our wall tiles and shower screens. By simply rinsing these down with water when you’re finished showering avoids this dirt and product scum drying hard and building up on these surfaces. This will avoid the need for ever having to scrub. Most showers have a hand held shower rose which makes this task an absolute breeze. For those without hand held shower roses, using a cup to rinse the shower recess down is just as effective. This 30 second task will save you countless scrubbing hours.

2. Wipe:

Following rinsing your walls and shower recess, wipe your shower screen down with a squeegee. For those who have very large, high gloss tiles, may wish to use the squeegee on their walls as well. Adding this 30 second task to your shower routine, will keep your shower looking sparkling clean and will avoid water marks and stains.

3. Air:

Leave your shower screen door open when you’re finished showering. This step requires absolutely no effort whatsoever but will help avoid mould forming in your shower recess. Mould loves damp, humid areas and the shower recess is the perfect environment for it to grow. It doesn’t matter how clean you are, how much you scrub or what products you use, our showers are humid and in a constant state of damp, so mould will inevitably grow. Leaving the shower screen door open for a period of time during the day allows the shower recess to dry out, reduces humidity and therefore mould growth.

Now your shower recess will be in a constant state of clean. The most that may be required at the end of the week is a quick clean with a little warm, soapy water and no scrubbing or toxic products will be required at all!
