Lighting in the home is more than just functional, it has the capability to turn a somewhat ordinary space into an extraordinary feature with literally, just a flick of a switch.
While most homeowners are aware of the importance of lighting when renovating their homes, the bathroom quite often remains to be a room where lighting is overlooked.
There are many options for lighting when renovating your bathroom, some of which need to be taken into consideration and catered for quite early in the renovation process. Here are some fantastic options for your bathroom lighting to consider:
IXL Tastic Neo
IXL have, for years, supplied their popular 3 in one fan/ heater/ light unit. More recently they have added the Neo range which provides a more modern, streamlined appearance which sets it apart from its bulky counterparts.
Pendant Lighting
This type of lighting offers a soft, decorative type of lighting to the bathroom and becomes quite a feature when placed over a bath or in the corner of the room.
Down Lighting
Down lights are quite popular in all areas of the home and the bathroom is no exception. Down lights can be set on a dimmer to set the mood of your lighting from anywhere to bright for shaving and makeup application to a dim lighting when relaxing in a bath.
Under Cabinet Lighting
This type of lighting can be included under your shaving cabinet and wall hung vanity. LED strip lighting is most popular for this lighting although, downlights may be used. Under cabinet lighting is a soft type of feature lighting that has an extremely practical use for those middle of the night visits when turning on conventional lighting burns our eyes and disturbs the rest of the household. Especially useful in ensuites, this type of lighting can be triggered by a sensor to turn on to light the floor area and set to a timer to turn automatically turn off.
Niche Lighting
Installing a niche with either down lights or the popular LED strip lighting is a fantastic way to create a feature in your bathroom. Feature walls are extremely popular in bathrooms today, although the expense of tiling an entire wall with feature tiles is not within every home owners renovating budget. Installing a niche with lighting creates a stunning feature even when tiled with ordinary wall tiles. The most popular areas for a niche in the bathroom is over a bath, which becomes the perfect spot for candles or a glass of wine, and the shower, which avoids the need for protruding shelves. Both are decorative yet practical additions. Wherever you decide to incorporate a niche, including lighting is sure to create a perfect feature.
Shadow Line Cornice Lighting
This type of lighting is set around the entire perimeter of the room where a cornice is usually placed. This lighting enhances the colour and texture of the wall tiles and is a gorgeous feature all on its own.
Floor Lighting/ Up Lighting
Floor lighting is a perfect way to highlight a particular feature within your bathroom by highlighting the area from the floor up. Typically, either in-floor up lights or LED strip lighting is installed in the floor area to highlight a feature tile on a single wall, in front of a bath or set in front of a decorative pot or statue. It can also be used as a type of under cabinet lighting. You’re limited only by your imagination with this type of lighting but whichever way you use it, it is certain to create amazing effect.
Vanity Drawer & Cabinet Interior Lighting
Many newer wall hung vanities come with this type of lighting which is triggered upon opening a drawer or cabinet adding light to its contents making things easier to find.
Various Mirror Lighting
Having adequate lighting in the bathroom is imperative for shaving and makeup application. There are a number of lighting options to ensure good lighting to your bathroom mirror. Overhead mirror lighting has become increasingly popular with newer, more modern designs of overhead lighting that is now available. Back-lit mirrors create a fantastic feature in your bathroom as well as adding extra lighting to your face. Hollywood lights may not as popular as they once were, but are extremely effective for creating the perfect lighting for makeup application.
