Storage, or lack thereof, is a common problem that most households experience. The bathroom is one room in particular that typically has limited space and therefore limited storage. “A place for everything, everything in its place” is difficult to achieve without adequate storage. When renovating a bathroom, there are a number of ways to add valuable storage that can actually enhance the decor of the bathroom without overcrowding the room.

Vanities

The vanity is typically the main area for storage in the bathroom. Wall hung or floating vanities, as they are often called, are quite popular as they not only create a modern look they allow more floor area to be visible and by doing so add to the appearance of space. Wall hung vanities come in both large drawer and the more traditional cupboard and smaller drawer options. Large drawers are preferred by many not only for their look, but the convenience of having everything within easy reach, thereby avoiding having to rummage to the back of cupboards. Vanities today come in a wide variety of sizes, styles, colours and finishes to match any bathroom. If the perfect vanity cannot be found in store, one can be custom made to perfectly suit the individuals needs and style.

Tallboys

Tallboys in bathrooms are more popular than ever as they can be found with matching vanities and shaving cabinets in a range of colours and finishes. They can be wall hung to create a more modern, streamlined finish and add valuable storage for bulk storage and larger items such as towels, toilet paper, shampoo and shower soap bottles. Again, if what is preferred cannot be found in store, tallboys can be custom made to perfectly suit.

Shaving Cabinets

Shaving cabinets have come a long way from their bulky beginnings. Shaving cabinets are an ideal way to provide extra storage in the bathroom without taking up valuable floor space. They can be recessed into the wall and appear to be a mirror alone creating a streamlined finish. Shaving cabinets also provide the perfect storage area to keep items out of reach from little fingers. Shaving cabinets can be custom made or purchased in store with matching vanities and tallboys.

Built in Hidden Cabinets

When doing a bathroom renovation, not all have the space to accommodate a large vanity or a tallboy. Built in hidden cabinets are the perfect storage solution when space is limited. They are recessed into the wall, typically behind the bathroom door and provide valuable storage without adding bulk to the room. The door finish can be made to suit any decor or can be mirrored providing a full length reflection in the bathroom.

Niches

Niches provide a stylish alternative to protruding shelves. Not only do niches look modern and create a fantastic feature, they help to avoid bumps and scrapes that commonly occur with traditional shelving options. Niches are perfect for shower recesses to house shampoos and conditioners etc. Placing a niche over a bath adds character to the bathroom and is the ideal spot for decorative plants, candles or even a glass of wine when relaxing in the tub. A niche can be tiled with the same tile as your walls or a contrasting feature tile. LED strip lighting can be added to niche to create a stunning feature.
