The humble toilet has come a long way throughout the years. There have been quite a number of advancements in its design and technology.
We look at the most popular types of toilet suites homeowners choose to install when renovating their bathrooms and some of the latest designs and features that are available today.
Back to wall close coupled toilet suites
This is by far the most popular type of toilet suite installed by homeowners. Being close coupled, both pan and cistern are together in a complete unit hiding eyesore plumbing. These are easy to install and extremely affordable. Their back to wall design sits flush with the wall which provides a neat, streamlined finish which blends in with any bathroom design. Most newer models also feature soft close seats and lids. Hidden plumbing makes this particular toilet easier to clean.
In-wall cisterns
In-wall cisterns provide a sleek, modern design to the bathroom. The cistern is installed into the wall cavity and only the flush button panel is exposed. The cistern can be accessed via the button panel for maintenance. These cisterns are considered more hygienic than their exposed cistern counterparts. They are paired with either wall faced pans or wall mounted pans and add to the appearance of space within the bathroom, as there is less bulk around the wall of the toilet. Although these in-wall cisterns have an extremely quiet flush, added insulation can be installed within the wall to further reduce flush noise from adjacent walls.
Wall hung pans
Wall hung pans are the ultimate in modern, space saving design. Being wall hung, these pans allow visibility to more floor space, which makes the bathroom appear larger. These pans work well in any bathroom design and are especially an advantage in smaller sized bathrooms. Wall hung pans are incredibly easy to clean as any mop will swipe straight under them when cleaning. Note: wall hung pans do come with weight limits, certain models will bare more weight than others, so be sure to check this prior to purchase.
Rimless toilet pans
Rimless toilets are exactly as the name suggests. The rim of the toilet pan has been removed which makes the toilet pan much easier to clean. Such a small statement, but one that cannot be emphasised enough. Rimless toilets are available in back to wall close coupled toilet suites, wall faced pans and wall hung pans. The new technology behind this design ensures a good flush, without splash and is much more hygienic than their rimmed counterparts.
Bidet electric toilet seats
The advantages of using a bidet has become more well known here in Australia. Especially with the use of wet wipes and the havoc they cause to our sewerage systems. Bidets offer the ultimate in hygiene and luxury however, not all bathrooms have the space for a separate bidet and not all homeowners can afford the expensive 2-in-1 toilet/bidet installations. Enter the electric bidet toilet seat. This seat is designed to be installed onto your existing toilet pan and offers all the luxury a bidet can offer. Everything from various water sprays, heated water, heated seat, sensor drying and even a deodoriser. This seat does require both a plumber and electrician to install, but is certainly worth the effort. Note: this seat is not compatible with all toilets, so be sure to check compatibility prior to purchase.
Intelligent Wall Hung toilet/ bidet
These toilets are the creme de la creme of toilet innovation. Quite pricey, however, they give an entire new meaning to visiting “the throne”. The Veil Intelligent Wall Hung Toilet integrates a toilet and bidet in one, saving precious bathroom space and provides ease of use. This innovative design features touchless flush, remote control, hygienic rimless bowl and built-in self cleansing bidet. The absolute ultimate in comfort that will make you feel like royalty.
