Create a stunning kitchen design with Two Tone Cabinetry

When renovating the kitchen, the first choice homeowners often make is the colour of their cabinetry. While the kitchen cabinetry has traditionally been all of the same colour, two tone designs have become a popular design choice.

Two tone cabinetry is as the name implies, cabinets in two separate colours in the same kitchen. Incorporating two toned cabinetry creates a focal point and adds character to the kitchen in the same way that a painted feature wall does in a lounge room. Adding either depth or a pop of colour.

There a number of ways to utilize two toned cabinetry in the kitchen. Most homeowners choose to have their base cabinets in their preferred darker tone to add character and wall cabinets either white or a light tone to enhance the appearance of space. This design suits all kitchen layouts and works perfectly with smaller kitchen areas.

Having the kitchen island in a different cabinetry colour makes it a focal point and when paired with a contrasting benchtop colour becomes an incredible feature. This design particularly suits L shaped and U shaped layouts, where the cabinetry lining the walls is in one tone and the island is in another.

Another popular choice is to have the cabinetry that houses the wall oven, microwave or integrated fridge in a darker toned cabinetry, typically a in a timber or grey tone. This design works well with all kitchen layouts though it is a balance of colour and space. Be sure that the feature area does not overpower the kitchen making it appear smaller.

There are no hard and fast rules with cabinetry colour you truly are limited by your imagination and kitchen space. Though, it is wise to choose tones that are classic rather than the latest trend, so as to not have your kitchen looking dated just a few years down the track. Be sure to carefully consider the size of your kitchen when adding darker wall cabinetry.

Here are a few popular colour combinations for two tone kitchen cabinetry. These include white with timber, white with French grey, white with charcoal, white with navy, French grey with navy and of course white with black and timber with black.
